What we are Learning!

Math

We are studying the relationship between division and multiplication. We've used some strategies to turn a division equation into a related multiplication equation. That way we can use multiplication to solve it! We looked at using multiplication charts as a cool tool to help us not only with multiplication, but with division. We can't use multiplication charts on test, but we've practiced how to use graph paper to create our own multiplication chart tool. Knowing those facts fluently is super helpful! Practice, practice, practice!

We've introduced division by separating into equal groups as well us using repeated subtraction.

This week we are continuing to understand the similarities and differences between multiplication and division relationships and representing multi-step problems.

ELAR

We are finishing our poetry unit! Lines, stanzas, and rhyme scheme, oh my! We're working hard to look at understanding and analyzing poems. We will have our unit assessment next Wednesday October 30th.

We are continuing to make inferences and use evidence from the text to support our understanding. For this assessment and each reading assignment going forward, we will be expecting students to support answers with text evidence.

Social Studies

We can describe how individuals, events, and ideas have change communities and explain how decisions and actions of an individual impacted a community. We will be talking about many influential people, but will focus on the contributions of Mary McLeod Bethune and her impact on education and civil rights.

Science

We are hard at work on our cardboard arcade games! Students are working with groups to build using cardboard and other recyclable materials to create an entertaining game for third and second graders to play. If anyone has extra duct tape laying around, we will definitely put it to use! Students are working hard every day to make sure games are ready to play by Friday November 1st!

Our class will be going to visit the HSLC on November 14th from about 10:15-2:20. We will be going on outdoor hikes and observing the animals at the HSLC and learning about life sciences.

Please return the field trip form as soon as possible!

Math
We are starting multiplication! This week we are just focusing on representing multiplication facts using repeated addition, equal groups, arrays, and skip counting.

ELAR
We are beginning our unit on Poetry. This week we will look at the structural elements of a poem, including stanzas and rhyme scheme.

Our grammar this week will continue reviewing proper nouns to show the specific names of people, places, and things.

In writing we will write poems that convey a mental image using poetry conventions.
